Bio

The Orange Velvets play reverbed out 60’s psychedelic surf pop with fashionably fuzzy guitars, male/female vocals, and pre-recorded white noise. They’re lead by American songwriter, Jesse Lurie, who named his band after he dreamt that he was hanging out with the Velvet Underground and drinking orange soda.

The band was formed in August of 2005 when Lurie met drummer Brian Evans. The duo soon recorded a demo at Nerdbox Studios in San Diego and recorded “The Orange Velvets EP” in the spring of 2006. They began performing later that year. In 2007 and the band recorded their first full length record, “Songs for Sarah”. The song “Radio Girl” appeared on an ourstage.com compilation CD.

The band added singer/tambourinist Erin Cory in the summer of 2008 and at one point had as many as seven members before paring back to a three-piece. In 2009 the trio recorded their second full length record, “Fuzz, Beautiful Fuzz”, a lo-fi, fuzzed out garage rock album that was recorded primarily on Lurie’s 4-track cassette player.

Cory left the Orange Velvets in late 2009 after a disastrous show and for a short time the band used a mannequin who held a tape recorder that played pre-recorded noise during live performances. Lurie continues to write songs and will be coming out with new material in 2011
